The Deaf Skiers Program began in 1975. This is the only program of
its kind in the Northeast where downhill skiing lessons are given
in sign language or by using interpreters.

The program is open to Deaf children and adults.
Six week lessons for hearing family and friends are also available.
Lessons begin early in January and end 6 weeks later.
The package also includes an unlimited Sunday pass.

The last Sunday of the program is a special Deaf Ski Day.
Awards are given to students and staff is recognized.
Many people join for pizza, skiing or just for friendship.

The program meets on Sundays at Toggenburg Winter Sports
Center in Fabius, NY, just 30 minutes south of Syracuse.
Check out the ski area at www.skitog.com.

FAD is always looking for interpreters who can ski or
snowboard to be a part of the program. Many volunteers help
to make the lessons run smoothly and provide a great skiing
and social opportunity for the Deaf community.
